Summary of Service
Pinewood provides skills training in a variety of areas necessary to obtain vocational skills. Each person will have the opportunity for involvement in the community. Vocational activities will emphasize increasing each person’s productivity and income level and will also emphasize improving the employment status or job advancement of each person participating in the vocational program. A variety of community resources are available to provide social and recreational opportunities to persons who do not wish to participate in vocational activities.
Pre-vocational training provides programming in leisure and vocational skills to persons having severe disabilities. Some individuals may require more intense staff ratios to achieve goals and objectives. Many individuals scheduled for pre-vocational training may also need training, assistance, or monitoring in basic skills essential to daily living.
Pinewood provides the opportunity to be involved in vocational activities on a regular basis unless contraindicated by the interdisciplinary team. Pinewood works with several businesses within the community to provide in-house work as well as community employment. Current community employment opportunities are available in the areas of janitorial/housekeeping, dishwashing, light clerical, packaging, lawn care, and recycling.
We are committed to assist consumers in maximizing their vocational, financial, and social independence. Preparing the person for the world of work and providing a program to meet this end is our top priority. This commitment to work means continued training in all pre-vocational skills that are critical to employment. The ability to take care of personal needs, communicate and interact with others appropriately, use time and money wisely, move about the community independently and maintain strength and endurance affects the individual’s ability to acquire and maintain employment.
